I am hardly the person to be telling the history of Camp Stevens given how little time I’ve been here, but let me try anyway …
At last year’s January staff retreat there was expressed interest in being more involved in the greater Julian community. Out of that interest came Second Sunday Suppers: free, home-made, seasonal meals once a month that invited anyone from the community in for food, conversation and an activity. They were a hit! These suppers have since turned seasonal, but continue to serve the greater Julian area (and are a great time for staff, too). This Sunday, we’ll be creating something delicious in the kitchen and screen-printing t-shirts afterward. Please join us at 5:30 in the dining hall and, if you would, just give a call beforehand so we know how many to cook for. And of course, bring a t-shirt to print!
Beginning last Sunday, the Julian community volleyball league started another season. I can’t even guess at how long it’s been going on, but I can attest to how fun it is! We have enough staff interest for two teams and so alternate between matches. Our team name is Bumper Crop!
So if you’re looking for an excuse to head to Julian, join us this Sunday night for Seasonal Sunday Suppers and every Sunday night for the next few weeks to cheer us on at the high school volleyball court!
Whim: “sudden idea.” This weekly post promises a number of things: personal thoughts and reflections, showing off Camp Stevens’ programs and staff, announcements for upcoming opportunities, and answering questions or responding to comments “from the audience.” If you have a topic or question you’d like addressed, just e-mail Beth!
