That’s a First: Cubby Envy

Here’s a First Time story from Assistant Chef Kate Hilliard:

My first experience with Camp Stevens was when I was about 5 years old. My older sister was coming to camp with her class, my mom was going as one of the extra adults and I tagged along. The most distinct memory I have from the experience is climbing up into the top bunk bed in one of the rooms in the old Bishop’s Lodge and thinking that the cubby hole was really cool and it would be great to have one in my bunk at home. It was a few years later when I first came to summer camp. I particularly liked doing crafts at freetime and going to Cow Pond; there were still a few cow bones up the hill from the pond then. I came back to camp every summer after that and still love crafts during freetime and walking the now familiar trails.

2012 marks the 60th year of Camp Stevens. Over the next few weeks – leading up to our September 2nd Open House celebration – we’ll be sharing people’s reflections on their first times at Camp Stevens. Share your story by emailing ashleyATcampstevensDOTorg.
