What happens after the summer camp morning? It might go something like this:
Ah, finally: Free time. I can take a break from all those games and hikes my counselors keep starting and do what I really want: Archery. Or swimming. Maybe both. But today Slim is picking raspberries in the garden. Maybe I should do that. Today archery and raspberries. Tomorrow I’ll go in the pool. Yesterday I just hung out in my cabin with my new friends. We played cards and I wrote Mom a letter. There’s this funny purple box in the Dining Hall where we put the mail. It’s way better than the mail box at home.
Before we went to lunch – today was grilled cheese! – our counselors told us that tonight we’re going on an overnight. That means we are going to cook our dinner outside! Maybe there will be s’mores. I love s’mores! And then the whole group sleeps outside. Yikes! The girls in my group are nervous, but it’s been really hot during the days and I think it will be fun to sleep outside. It’s just like our cabin, just no roof. My counselor knows a ton about the stars. Last night he showed us “our” constellations. He said that since my birthday is in November that I’m a Scorpion. It’s a cool one!
I’ve got to go pack up my stuff for our overnight so I’m ready to go right when archery starts. I’ll take my sleeping bag and toothbrush down to our meeting spot – our group always meets at the same spot when group time starts. It’s neat to have our own place. And then it’s snack time! Yesterday was watermelon, and some of the older kids said that sometimes we have Rice Krispy treats. Maybe that will be today!
